September 11, 2011 - Farewell to the H4 Subway cars
2011 was a solumn year for many Toronto-area transit fans, as it meant the end of a number of historic transit vehicle types. Not only were the venerable GMC New Look buses phased out after over 50 years of consistant service, but also the last of the second-generation subway cars, the Hawker-Siddeley H4 subway cars.
The TTS chartered a 6-car train of H4s, bookended by 5623 and 5648, on a tour of almost the entire subway system. It also included some time at the infamous "Lower Bay" Station as well as quick trips around both of the active subway carhouses, the Greenwood and Wilson shops.
